Therapy for LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ individuals may face unique emotional and social challenges. Fear of rejection, discrimination, pressure to hide their identity, or lack of acceptance from family, peers, or their community are some of the difficulties they may encounter.

Experiences of stigma, discrimination, or bullying can impact self-esteem and a person’s sense of safety. Many also navigate complex questions around identity, relationships, and belonging while trying to feel understood and supported.

For individuals who are transitioning, the process can bring both a sense of alignment and relief, as well as emotional, social, and practical challenges.

Navigating changes in identity expression, relationships, body image, and social roles can feel complex and, at times, overwhelming. Questions around acceptance, disclosure, medical decisions, and belonging may arise, often alongside fears of rejection or uncertainty about the future.

Despite the unique challenges faced by this group, I view each person as a unique individual with their own feelings and set of experiences. Understanding their individuality along with the personal history that has shaped their identity and life is an important goal of therapy, while also addressing the challenges they face in everyday life.
